Back in Chula after a week at home in Utah revamping from the China trip. It felt soo good to spend a few days home doing whatever the heck I wanted. I slept all day, went shopping, caught up with friends and family and rode all three of my bikes (road, bmx, mtn) just for fun.
Bruce and Will hooked me up with two freshie polished frames (ill get pics up soon) I built one up and took it out to my old stomping ground Rad Canyon for a practice sess. The track was a little soft still from loads of rain but pretty fun and looking good for the national next month. Rumor around was that they are paving the turns there this week, that should take the track to a whole new level and I am excited to go back and ride it. Had kind of a cool experience while there, a dad walked up to me with his daughter and started talking about how he just bought a powerlite cruiser for his 9yr old daughter. When I actually looked at the bike it took me back in time 11 years! Turns out it was my very first cruiser my dad built up for me when I was 11, complete with first generation Martin Wheels! He asked me to sign the frame so I did, but I think I was more psyched than he was just to see my old bike, stuff like that takes me back to my roots and reminds me how much I love this sport and how ingrained its been in me for so long.
I Also went on a 32 mile road ride up a gnarly canyon with my pops and remembered why I am a sprinter not an endurance climber. Then to make myself feel better after getting smoked by dad who didn't even break a sweat on the climb, I dusted off the ole 4x bike and bombed down squaw peak for old times sake. I forgot how easy it is to jump a big wheel bike and nearly died hitting the little 8 pack at the bottom, overshot a few of the dubs pretty bad… thank goodness for suspension.
Anyway, its time to get back on track here in Chula with my training. A lot of people have been asking questions about my plans this summer since I lost the lead points slot for Beijing. I am going to continue training for the games as planned, it’s not over for me yet. I have put too much work to come this close that I can’t give up now. I will see it through until the end and haven’t lost hope that I am still going. Besides, my roomie needs a training partner to shred with.
Thanks for everyone who participated in the Q&A this last week. Sorry about the delay in my answers posting to some of the questions, I’m not sure why it took so long I was trying to keep up on it every day! I think it will be up for a few days longer for those of you who still have a question or two up the sleeve.
For everyone in SoCal get down here to Chula Vista this Saturday to watch the Men's trials race! Its going to be an amazing show! Never before has so much been on the line for 8 guys and I am so excited to watch, we are expecting a big crowd here and rumor has it the Mike Day fan club will be in full force, t-shirts and all.
Guess that’s it…cheers.
