So this weekend was pretty rough for me. I came into this race with a 13 point lead and the confidence that I was going to Beijing. I felt awesome on the track and killed it in my qualifiers, but unfortunately the cards didn’t fall my way as I fell in my quarterfinal and was forced to watch as my fate was left in Jill’s hands. She made the final and finished 6th which gave her EXACTLY 14 points, passing me by ONE point and taking the top slot. Its not ironic that it came down to this very last race. We have been batteling all year for that top position, living together, training together, pushing eachother, and believing that we were going to Beijing together. But because of the way the country points system was set up, and played out this last year we failed to qualify our 2nd womens position so as of today only one girl is going, and its Jill.
Pretty heartbreaking for me, but I haven’t given up. I am still on the Olympic Long team and automatic alternate if something happens. I’m not holding my breath but until the UCI announces the final start positions for each country I haven’t given up on that second slot either. So as for me I am going to continue training and riding as if I am going, because its not over til its over.
Stephen Cisar came out as the top American man nearly winning the main and scoring the silver for the US. This is going to give him A LOT of momentum going into the trials race. Donny came in 4th and Denzel Stein landed a 3rd in Jr. Men.
So…. I am heading home this week for a little R&R with the family, some shredding time on my MTB, and enjoying some fresh and clean mountain air. Congrats to Kyle and Jill for landing the top American positions for the games…
